A Show of Hands

I have just spent the last two long days at the Downtown Holiday Market. It is a wonderful show and many people came by to check out all the great vendors. Even in the rain! However, I know not everyone can get into DC. That is why I wanted to let everyone know I am currently carried at a local shop, which is also one of my favorite stores!

A Show of Hands is a fantastic place filled with mainly local artists. It was just named 'Virginia Retailer of the Year', partly because it supports and encourages the budding craftsperson, as well as the seasoned professional. My stock there includes bags of all sizes, hats and scarves, which all make nice, affordable gifts.

In addition, there is a huge variety of other media and items. Some of my favorites are the hand made soaps, pressed flower magnets and foam puppets.

Check out their website for hours, location and the story behind the store at http://www.ashowofhands.biz.

The above pictures are from the Downtown Holiday Market. Does it look festive? -Jen

Downtown Holiday Market

Now in its third year, the Downtown Holiday Market is your best one stop shopping destination, right in the middle of DC! It features some of the finest local artists and craftspeople, as well as fair trade and imported items. While you browse the tents and listen to the talented musicians, sip a hot cocoa and nibble on a fresh cookie. Or, try some of the best barbecue I've ever had!

There is a rotating cast of characters every day, none the same throughout. I will be at the market for 4 days, the first being tomorrow. This week, I will be there on Wednesday, December 12 and Thursday, December 13. Next week, I will be there on Tuesday, December 18 and Thursday, December 20. I can't wait!

The lo down on the Downtown!

The Downtown Holiday Market is located on F Street, between 7th and 8th Streets, right outside the Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture, across the street from the Verizon Center and the Gallery Place metro stop. We are open from noon to 8pm, so late night, after work, before the movies, during the game, shopping is always an option.

For more information, including maps and other exhibitors, check out http://dhm.reiel.com/dhm/.

I am looking forward to seeing some of my great customers for the end of the year gift giving frenzy! -Jen

Pure Heart Yoga Studio Holiday Gift Show

I am almost giddy with excitement for this Friday evening! I dare say that all the vendors are. I have been working on some great products to give... and keep.

Some very popular items have been mini-wristlets, which are prefect for tucking a pair of earrings or gift card into. Also, people have been loving my reversible hats, made from warm polar fleece and soft flannel, cotton knits or a mix of fabrics. They come in a variety of colors, sizes and styles. I have scarves and polar fleece boas to coordinate, which would make a wonderful gift set.

For more information, check out our evite at http://www.evite.com/app/publicUrl/jenathanas@hotmail.com
/pureheartholidaygiftshow. It will give more details about the five vendors that will be in attendance. Hope to see you there! -Jen

Two **GREAT** Upcoming Shows!

As we have started the mad rush called 'the holiday season', I would like to encourage you to treat yourself to a different type of shopping. I personally have made the resolution to not buy at the mall this year. I plan to support local businesses, smaller stores, do online shopping, as well buy from artists and craftspeople. These practices not only make a larger economic impact to these businesses, but are environmentally friendly. The two following shows will allow you to relax a little, while finding goodies for your loved ones in a nontraditional setting.

I hope to see you there!-Jen

Del Ray Artisans' Fine Art and Fine Crafts Holiday Market

Exquisite gifts created by more than 20 artist members will be featured in addition to festive baked goods to indulge your sweet-tooth and one-of-kind artist-designed holiday ornaments! The festivities begin Friday evening, November 30, with an opening reception and sale featuring wine and seasonal treats from 7–9:30 p.m. The Holiday Market will continue Saturday, December 1, from 10 AM to 6 PM and will be open during the Potomac West Christmas Tree lighting event which takes place next door to the gallery. The market continues Sunday, December 2 ,noon–4 PM. The Holiday Market will be the place to pick up unique, one-of-a-kind gifts for the holiday season!

In conjunction with the Market, Food for Thought, a holiday bake sale, will tempt you with festive and delicious delights! Seasonal Art-Wear Success!!

Thank you to each and every one of the wonderful people who stopped by to support Kay, Greta and I on Sunday! We all had a great day, which means a great show. We absolutely could not have done it without you. Personally, I always get so inspired being around creative people. Given Greta's influence, I might even pick up a torch again. And, Kay's multi media quilting, especially her use of photos, totally flooded me with ideas....when I get time....OH! Don't forget to check out all the artists' websites/blogs for their upcoming holiday shows!-Jen

Art on the Avenue

I love fall. I mean, I *really* love fall. I love the way warm, rotting leaves smell, pumpkin bagels taste and sweaters feel. Fall also means some great arts and crafts festivals, such as Art on the Avenue. Held this coming Saturday, this one day show is the ultimate way to kick off fall. There are over 300 talented artists and craftspeople. There are food vendors to sample from, while you watch musicans and performers from near and far. And, at this writing, the weather is supposed to be nice on Saturday! Last year was a little cool and damp, so this will be a great change.

Please join me, and hundreds of others, as we welcome in fall!

What: Art on the Avenue
Where: Mt Vernon Avenue, in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria
Where, again: I will be in space 53W, which is between Windsor and Custis
When: Saturday, October 6th 10am to 6pm
Why: Because you might just like fall too!
Website: Complete directions, including metro information at www.artontheavenue.org

I hope to see you there. I have been working to make some great new bags that I can't wait to share-Jen

Thank you, thank you very much!

All I can say is WOW! Arts on Foot was a total blast- not only was the weather fantastic, but this was my best show to date! I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you to all of my wonderful customers that wiped me out that day. For the past weeks, I have been working my little fingers off, trying to get my stock back. I have not been showing since then, and the next time I will be out will be Saturday, October 6th for Art on the Avenue, in Alexandria.

This is a new bag I just finished this morning! It is a beauty, no? It is made from reclaimed upholstery samples on the outside. There is a fun teddy bear print lining, complete with pockets all long one side. The strap is big enough to go across the body, which makes it usable while riding a bike. It is $65 and I *know* this will sell at Arts on the Avenue!

Thank you once again, I am so fortunate to have the wonderful customers I do! I can't wait to see you all in a week-Jen

Artists Gone Wild!

Wow! What a morning I had! Being on tv, belly dancing. It wasn’t a normal Thursday, that’s for sure...

Fox 5 News ran a few features about the upcoming Adams Morgan Day Festival, which is this Sunday, September 9th. The reports included several dance groups and a few artists that will be in Arts on Belmont, an offshoot juried art show. I met two wonderfully talented painters, Dana Ellyn (www.danaellyn.com) and Matt Sesow ( www.sesow.com), who will be exhibiting on Belmont with me and were also featured on the broadcast.

Even though I said nothing, I’m there...and, after we were 'interviewed', we joined Holly Morris from Fox 5 and the belly dancers. You can see me in the back, to the far left, shaking my hips and shimmying. However, by far my favorite part of the dancing is Avner Ofer, photographer and founder of the Western Market in DC (www.dcwestermarket.com) bumping along to the music!

You can check out the video below or at http://www.sesow.com/press/2k7/SESOWmorgan1.mp4

If this is just a taste of how much fun Sunday is going to be, I can’t wait! See you there!- Jen

NEW Products

I have some exciting new products for the upcoming Fall Season. And, upcoming holiday giving season. Yes, I know it is only (the end of) August, but it is never too early to starting looking out for friends and family.

The first fun and uber-useful item is a wristlet. Several customers had asked about these little guys, but I just didn't think they would be feasible. I am a true believer in being prepared, and how prepared can you be with just a little bag on your wrist? Well, I have been proven wrong! These little zippered pouches are large enough to hold money, keys, phone, lip gloss and more. I even got a thin cotton shawl in one!

They are made from reclaimed upholstery fabric samples, mostly fun, cleanable vinyl. There are a variety of colors to match every personality. At $15, you'll want more than one, I'm sure...

The second new product is a great every use bag. It is made completely from recycled materials, mostly a garbanzo bean bag!

This bag is prefect for the farmers' market, day at the beach or even just commuting to work. With sturdy handles made from heavy canvas or denim and a re-enforced bottom, it will carry a ton of your worldly possessions. There is also an interior patch pocket. For only $25, this is a fantastic way to wean yourself off of plastic shopping bags.

An extra special thank you to Pete at Amsterdam Falafelshop in Adams Morgan for the garbanzo bean bags and the challenge of making something useful out of them!

I hope you will come to visit me at some of the upcoming fall shows and festivals. These items, and many more fun things, will be available. Happy end of summer!-Jen
